When the European Parliament announced that a new energy efficiency report included a vote on phasing out patio heaters we responded quickly through a PR campaign that challenged the media and Parliament to see the issue from a different point of view.

All MEPs were armed with facts ahead of their debate as well as not being able to escape the noise we created in the press. Working alongside the pub industry, who had invested in patio heaters to beat the smoking ban, we gathered public support by highlighting the potential loss of £250m a year to the pub trade, not to mention the loss of civil liberty if the ban went ahead. As a result the EU reconsidered its debate on patio heaters.
